Etymology: Incorporates words from Barunggam and Wakka Wakka, the languate spoken by the people of the Barunggam and Wakka Wakka nations of the Darling Downs, south-eastern Queensland, Australia, gun or gung, "water, waterhole or river" and Barunggam, gamarandu, "boss, owner."

Etymology: Barunggam, mau, "head," and Barunggam, nala, "hole." In reference to the large supratemporal openings on the skull.
