Etymology: Kuttana from Quechua for "grinding or crushing machine" and caiman; referring to tropical American alligatoroids.

Species: iquitosensis SALAS-GISMONDI, FLYNN, BABY, TEJADA-LARA, WESSELINGH, & ANTOINE, 2015
Etymology: In reference to the Iquitos native ethnic group inhabiting the Maynas province close to the Peruvian Amazonian city of Iquitos near the specimen locality.

Holotype: MUSM 1490

Locality: Locality IQ26, Iquitos area, Fernando Lores District, Peru.

Horizon: Pebas Formation.

Material: Nearly complete skull, and mandible.
