Genus: Protoalligator WANG, SULLIVAN, & LIU, 2016
Etymology: Greek, protos, "first," combined with the name of the extant genus Alligator. This coinage retians the spirit of Young's oringial but now invalid genus name Eoalligator (Greek, eos, 'dawn, primorial', combined with Alligator.

Etymology:
= Eoalligator huiningensis YOUNG, 1982

Holotype: IVPP V 4058

Locality: Huaidinghuawu, Anhui Province, China.

Horizon: Wanghuduen Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Paleocene Epoch, Lower Paleogene Period, Lower Tertiary Subera, Cenozoic Era.

Material: Skull and lower jaws missing posterior end.
