Etymology: Greek, protos, "before" + Caiman, and Greek, oides, "like."

Etymology: In reference to the type locality Punta Peligro.

Holotype: MLP 80-X-10-1

Locality: Punta Peligro locality, Patagonia, Chubut Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Upper levels of the Salamanca Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Danian Stage, Lower Paleocene Epoch, lower most Paleogene Period, Lower Tertiary Subera, Lower Cenozoic Era.

Material: Partial skull, including the skull roof (missing the anterior end of the frontals and snout), lateral walls of the braincas (lacking the basicranium), most of the occipital table, adn left quadrate.

Referred material:

Number: Not given: Right ramus lacking the posterior end, and a fragment of a maxilla.

Etymology:
= Hassicosuchus kayi MOOK, 1941

Holotype: CM 9600

Locality: Levitt Creek, about 5 miles east and south of Mountain View, Uinta County, Wyoming.

Horizon: Black's Fork Member, Bridger Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Bridgerian, Early Eocene Epoch, Paleogene Period, Lower Tertiary Subera, Lower Cenozoic Era.

Material: Skull missing anterior tip, lower jaw and skeleton.
