Genus: Apedolepis YOUNG, 1997
Etymology: Greek, apedos, “even, flat or level” and Greek, lepis, “scale”: Even scale.

Species: tomlinsonae YOUNG, 1997
Etymology: In honor of Joyce Gilbert-Tomlinson, who was responsible for paleontological identification and age determination of fossil samples collecte during the initial geological surveys of central Australia, including the first collections of Ordovician vertebrates.

Holotype: CPC 33630

Locality: Areyonga Creek section, eastern Gardiner Range, about 5 km south of Areyonga (locality 5), Amadeous Range, Northern Territory State, Australia.

Horizon: Lower Stokes Formation, RSN sample 85-2020P, Stokes Siltstone, bed 6, about 20-30 m above the base of the formation.

Biostratigraphy: Phragmodus-Plectodina Conodont zone.

Age: Uppwer Darriwillian Stage, Upper Llanvirn Series, Middle Ordovician.

Material: Scale.
