Genus: Pircanchaspis ERDTMANN, WEBER, SCHULTZE & EGENHOFF, 2000
Etymology: In reference to the Pircancha Formation (Lower Arenig) characterizing the lozal stratigrahic position of the fossil combied with Greek, aspis, “shield.”

Species: rinconensis ERDTMANN, WEBER, SCHULTZE & EGENHOFF, 2000
Etymology: In reference ot the hill “Rincon” near Puesto Grande (S. Bolivia), where the fossil is situated.

Holotype: MB f.3963

Locality: Outcropping at a small hill named “Rincon”, about 100 m north of the “Escuela Seccional de Puesto Grande”, District of Tarija, South Bolivia.

Horizon: Pircancha Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lower Arenig Epoch, Early Ordovician.

Material: External and internal imprints of an exoskeletal plate preserved as a natural mold in a small block of silty mudstone.
