Genus: Ngamugawi CLEMENT, CLOUTIER, LEE, KING, VANHASEBROUCKE, BRADSHAW, DUTEL, TRINAJSTIC & LONG, 2024
Etymology: Gooniyandi/Guinyandi (Language of the First Nations people from Country around Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimerley region of Western Australia), ngamuawi, "ancient fish."

Species: wirngarri CLEMENT, CLOUTIER, LEE, KING, VANHASEBROUCKE, BRADSHAW, DUTEL, TRINAJSTIC & LONG, 2024
Etymology: In honoru of respected Gooniyandi elder and ancestor Wirngarri, who lived in the Emaneul Range. Generic and Specific names were both provided to Prof. J. Long in September 2023, who has a longstanding and ongoing relationship with the community, with permissions to use the language granted by elder Rosemary Nuggett, on behalf of the Gooniyandi people of the Mibi community.

Holotype: WAM 09.6.148

Locality: Circa 100 km southest of Fitzroy Crossing, Canning Basin, northern Western Australia.

Horizon: Gogo Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Fransian Stage, Early Late Devonian, Late Devonian.

Material: A small butmostely complete skull.

Paratype: NMV P231504: Elements comprising two cleithra, the ventral portion of the basisphenoid and parasphenoid, and several isolated scales.
