Etymology: In reference to North Yorksire port of Whitby, famus for Jurassic fossils.

Locality: Cliff fall, between Whitby and Saltwick Bay, North Yorkshire coast. Yorkshire County, England, Southern United Kingdom.
Horizon: Saltwick Formation.
