Genus: Barracudasaurus JIANG, HAO, MAISCH, MATZKE & SUN, 2005
Etymology: The name was chosen for the superficial similarity of the skull
and dentition to the extant Great Barracuda (Sphyraean barracuda),
a fomidable
marine predator and Greek, sauros, 'lizard'.

Etymology:
Holotype: IVPP V 2468
Locality: Yueliangtien, Hsinchiao area, Maotai County, Guizhou Province, China.
Horizon: Guanling Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Early Middle Triassic.
Material: Ribs, gastralia, clavical, interclavicle fragment, coracoid, fragmentary scapula, humerus and some hand bones.
