Etymology: Greek, ichthys, "fish", taken from ichthyosaur meaning "fish lizard" and Greek, titan, "giant"; which means Giant fish lizard from Severn.

Etymology: In refernece to the River Severn Estuary, Somerset, UK, where the remains were discovered and Latin, -ensis, pertaining to the location.

Holotype: BRSMG Cg2488

Locality: Blut Anchor, Somerst County, England, Southern United Kingdom.

Horizon: Westbury Mudstone Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Latest Rhaetian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Large left surangular comprising the posterior end and a portion of the shaft.
