Etymology: Latin, quasi, "almost," Greek, anosteos, "boneless" and Greek, sauros, "lizard": Because the preservation of the holotype which is almost exclusively a natural cast of the skull with very little original bone substance preserved.

Etymology: In reference to the type locality, Mount Vicking (Vikinghogda), Spitzbergen, Svalbard Island, Norway.

Age: Spathien Epoch, Early Triassic.

Material: Fragment of skull and fragment of sclerotic ring, part of the snout of a large individual
