Etymology: In reference to the Shoshone Mountains, Nye County, Nevada, where the material was found, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Shoshone lizard.

Species: popularis CAMP, 1976
Etymology:

Holotype: UNLVNH FZVE-1

Locality: Quarry 5, west Union Canyon, southwest of Ichthyosaur State Park exhibition quarry, Nye County, Nevada.

Horizon: 170 m above base of shaly limestone member of Luning Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Upper part of the Klamathites macrolobatus zone.

Age: Upper Carnian Stage, Middle Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Skeleton lacking distal end of tail, incomplete skull.

Paratype: UNLV MNH FZVE-2: Proximal half of right front paddle humerus, parts of shoulder girdle and skull.

UNLV MNH FZVE-3: Incomplete skeleton including 1 side of skull, pelvis and part of rear paddle and tail.

There are more than 30 individuals.

Number: Not given: Shonisaurus coprolite (Heteropolacopros ichnosp), with remains of a nautiloid ?(cf. Cenoceras).

Etymology:

Holotype: UNLV NHM PZVE-7

Locality: Quarry X, 150 m northwest of Quarry 4, 800 m due west of the upper (or "Cirac") springs, at an elevations of approximately 2262 m, on top of south-sloping ridge, north side of West Union Canyon, Nye, County, Nevada.

Horizon: Shaly limestone member of Luning Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Lower part of Klamathites schucherti zone.

Age: Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Left humerus, left radius, Ulnare, large neural spine.

Etymology:

Holotype: UNLV NHM FZVE-5

Locality: Quarry 4, (the "May Locality") 1200 m northeast of Quarry 1 on northwest side West Union Canyon, about 60 m above the floor of the canyon, Nye County, Nevada.

Horizon: Luning Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Lower part of Klamathites macrolobatus zone.

Age: Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Associated pubis, ischia, ilium, femur tibia, and other paddle elements with ribs and fragments.
