Etymology: In reference to Svalbard Archipeligo in the Artic Ocean east of northern
Greenland, containing Spitsbergen island where the fossil was found, and Greek,
sauros, “lizard”: Svalbard lizard.

Locality: Mont Viking, Sassendalen, Spitsbergen, Svalbard Island, Norway.
Age: Spathien Stage, Upper Scythian Epoch, Early Triassic.
