Genus: Utatsusaurus SHIKOMA, KAMEI & MURATA, 1978
Etymology: In reference to Utatsu-cho, Tatezaki Coast, Northeast Hanshu, Yoroijima Island, Japan where the specimen was found, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Utatsu-cho lizard.

Locality: Coast of Tatezaki, Utatsu-cho, Motoyoshi-gun, Miyagi Prefecture, Kitakami Massif, Yoroijima Island, Northeast Japan.

Horizon: Osawa Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Spathian in Stage, Upper Scythian Epoch, Late Early Triassic.

Material: Fragmentary skull and fragmentary skeleton.
