Genus: Arachana PINEIRO, RAMOS, & MARSICANO, 2012
Etymology:
The generic word honours the Archanes, aborigines that lived in the area where
the specimen was collected in the Cerro Largo County (northeastern
Uruguay).
Species: nigra PINEIRO, RAMOS, & MARSICANO, 2012
Etymology: Latin, niger, "black," alluding to the color of the skull.
Holotype: FC-DPV 1369
Locality: Colonia Orozco Village, around 6 km northeast of Melo City, Cerro Largo County, Uruguay.
Horizon: Colonia Orozco Member, Buean Vista Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Late Permian-Early Triassic.
Material: Fragmentary skull.
