Etymology: In reference to Kitching Ridge, Transantarctic Mountains, East Antarctica, Antarctica.

Locality: Kitching Ridge, Transantarctic Mountains, immediately east of Shackleton Glacier, lat 85'13S., long 174'30"W, Queen Maud Mountains, East Antarctica, Antarctica.

Horizon: Lower part of the Fremouv Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Early Middle Triassic.

Material: Skull in the rock, lacking the palate and braincase.

Locality: Thrinaxodon Col., on the southwest flank of Mount Kenyon, about 25 km. or 15 miles due east of the type locality, lat 85'13S, long 177'30W, Transantarctic Mountains, Queen Maud Mountains, East Antarctica, Antarctica.
