Etymology: Greek, rhigo, "frost or cold", and Greek, herpeton, "creeping animal."

Species: isbelli GEE, BEIGHTOL & SIDOR, 2023
Etymology: In honor of John Isbell for his important contributions to understanding the depositional history and paleoenvironment of the Becon Group of Antarctica.

Holotype: UWBM VP 95522

Locality: UWBM Locality C1585, Graphite Peak, 85°3.145'S, 172°22.910'E,  just south of the head of Falkenhof Glacier, Victoria Land, East Antarctica.

Horizon: Near the middle of lower member, 34 meters above teh base of the Fremouw Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Anisian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Early Middle Triassic.

Material: Partial skull with articulated palate.
