Etymology: Greek, trypanon, "to bore" and Greek, gnathos, "jaw." In reference to the premaxilla that is penetrated by symphseal tusks.

Etymology: In reference to the type locality, Remigiusberg-Rammelskopf quarry, northeastern rim of th Remigiusberg, Kusel County, Western Rhineland-Palatinate State, Germany.
Holotype: UGKU 2394
Locality: UGKU L21, Remigiusberg-Rammelskopf quarry, northeastern rim of th Remigiusberg, 49°31'51.6"N, 7°26'52.2"E, about 1 km northeast of Haschbach, Kusel County, Western Rhineland-Palatinate State, Germany.
Horizon: Lower Theisbergstegen lake level, Middle part of the Remigiusberg Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Gzhelian Epoch, Latest Pennsylvanian Subperiod, Latest Carboniferous Period- Lowest Asselian Stage, Lowers Rotligendes Epoch, Lower Permian.
Material: Skull, interclavicle, clavicles, neural arches, adn patial left hind limb.
