Etymology: Latin, anchauro, "morning" and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Morning lizard.

Species: gilmorei GAO & HOU, 1995
Etymology: In honor of Charles W. Gilmore, the pioneer student of fossil lizards form the Gobi Desert.

Holotype: IVPP V10028

Locality: North Canyon, Bayan Manduhu, Urad Houqi, Inner Mongolia, China.

Horizon: Djadochta Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Middle Campanian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Nearly complete skull with mandible, part of the vertebral column, pelvis and disarticulated limb bones.

Locality: South of Gate, near Bayan Mandahu, Urad Houqi, Inner Mongolia, China.

Horizon: Djadochta Formation.
