Etymology: Brasil, in reference to its provenance from the Late Cretaceous
of Brazil, + Iguana, from the South American and Caribbean aboriginal language
Arawakan iguana, iwana, which referes to the local name for lizard.

In reference to Presidente Prudente Municipality, Sao Paulo State, Brazil,
where the holotype was found.
Holotype: MN 7230-V
Locality: In the vicinities of Presidente Purdente Municipality, west Sao Paulo State, Brazil.
Horizon: Adamantina Formation, Bauru Group.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Turonian Stage, Uppermost Gallic Subepoch-Santonian Stage, Lower Senonian Subepoch, Lower Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
Material: Isolated left maxilla with partially preserved teeth.
