Etymology: Greek, eo, "dawn," and Latin, scincus, "skink", referring to the age and phylogenetic position of the taxon.

Species: ornatus BROWNSTEIN, MEYER, FABBRI, BHULLAR & GAUTHIER
Etymology: Latin, ornatus, "ornamented", in reference to the vermiculate rugosities on the facial bones.

Holotype: DINO 14864

Locality: DINO (Dinosaur National Monument site) 412, north of the little town of Jensen, Uintah County, Utah.

Horizon: Brushy Basin Member, Morrison Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Zone 4.

Age: Comobluffian age, Tithonian Stage, uppermost Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: Skull and mandibles lackign teh braincase, postorbital skull roof, and quadrates.
