Etymology: "Komen" named in honor of the Slovenian village of Komen, Slovenia, and Latinized Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Species: carrolli CALDWELL & PALCI, 2007
Etymology: In honor of the eminent professor of vertebrate paleontology, Robert L. Carroll, recognizing his work on 'aigialosaurus'.

Holotype: MCSNT 11430 (originally 9961), 11431, 11432

Locality: Komen, Slovenia.

Age: Late Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic Subepoch, Lowermost Gulf Epoch, Middle Cretaceous.

Material: A single specimen in three pieces.

Breakdown as follows;

MCSNT 11430: Contains most of the articulated postcranial remains.

MCSNT 11431: Contains cervical vertebrae, fragments of lower jaw, and the quadrate.

MCSNT 11432: Surangular-prearticular complex, and the spenial and coroniod.
