Etymology: Latin, antecessor, “forerunner”, in reference to the Mabuya-like dentary morphology of this ancient skink.

Holotype: UALVP 29789

Locality: UALVP MR-6, Verdigris Coulee, approximately 30 km east of the Village of Milk River, Warner County, Southern Alberta Province, Canada.

Horizon: Deadhorse Coulee Member, Milk River Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Aquilian age, Late Santonian Stage, Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Incomplete right dentary having 6 teeth and the broken bases, as well as vacant spaces, of 16 others.

Topotypes:

UALVP 29788, 29827-29828: and several unnumbered jaw fragments.
