Etymology: Greek, tarratein, “double sense of to dig, to burrow, as well as to cause confusion" and Greek, sauros, “lizard”.

Species: anoualensis BROSCHINSKI & SIGOGNEAU-RUSSELL, 1996
Etymology: In reference to Anoual, Talsinnt Province, eastern High Atlas Mountains, Morocco, the geographical origin of the species.

Holotype: Museum national d’Histoire naturelle, MHNM MCM 140

Locality: Anoual microvertebrate locality, about 100 km east of the city of Anoual an dnear a fort called Ksar Met Lili, Talsinnt Province, eastern High Atlas Mountains, Morocco.

Horizon: Morocco B sequence of the ‘couches rouges’.

Biostratigraphy: Unnamed non-marine limestone lens.

Age: Probably Berriasian Stage, Lower Neocomian Subepoch, Lowermost Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Nearly complete left dentary fragment with 10 preserved teeth.

Paratypes: MCM 141-142: Two less complete dentary fragments.
