Genus: Utahgenys NYDAM & FITZPATRICK, 2009
Etymology: In reference to "Utah", the state from which all known specimens were collected and Greek, genys, "jaw": In reference to the similarities in jaw and tooth morphologies to Contogenys.

Species: evansae emend NYDAM & FITZPATRICK, 2009
Etymology: In honor of Dr. Susan E. Evans for her numerous contirbutions to the study of Mesozoic lizards.
Note: The authors incorrectly coined the species name. The ending should be 'ae' (which is the femenine ending) not 'i' (which is the masculine ending) and is herein emended.
