Genus: Akidolestes LI & LUO, 2006
Etymology: Greek, akido, "the point"; in reference to the pointed rostrum
of this mammal, and Greek, lestes, "thief," a common suffix for the name of
fossil mammals.
Species: cifellii LI & LUO, 2006
Etymology: In honor of Dr. Richard L. Cifelli, for his pioneering studies
of symmetrodont mammals.

Locality: Dawangzhangzi, Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province, China.
Horizon: Horizon II, Yixian Formation, Jehol Group.
Biostratigraphy: Psittacosaurus fauna, Liaoxiornis Avifauna.
Age: Lower Hautervian Stage, Uppermost Neocomian Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Skull and skeleton.
