Etymology: Greek, Ambi, prefix expressiing the ambiguity resulting from the several different interpretations of the relationships of this taxon to Tertiary mammals, Greek, lestes, “theif”, a common suffix applied to mammalian generic names.

Material: Fragment of left side of skull with UP1-4, UM1 and UM3.
