Genus: Asfaltomylos RAUHUT, MARTIN, ORTIZ-JAUREGUIZAR, PUERTA, 2002
Etymology: Genus name referring to the Canadon Asfalto Formation, Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina and Greek, mylos, "mill", after the grinding function of the well developed talonid.

Species: patagonicus RAUHUT, MARTIN, ORTIZ-JAUREGUIZAR, PUERTA, 2002
Etymology: Patagonicus, is termed after the origin, from Patagonia, Argentina.

Holotype: MPEF-PV 1671

Locality: Queso Rallado Locality, 42°24'33.55"S, 69°13'50.1"W, about 3 miles west-northwest of the village of Cerro Condor, Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina.

Horizon: Puesto Almada Member, Canadon Asfalto Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Callovian Stage, Upper Dogger Epoch, Upper Middle Jurassic-Oxfordian Stage, Lower Malm Epoch, Lower Late Cretaceous.

Material: Left mandible with roots and crown fragments fo the last 3 premolors and m1-m3.
