Genus: Corviconodon CIFELLI, WIBLE & JENKINS, 1998
Etymology: Latin, corvus, Corvi, “Raven or crow”, a reference to the Crow, a native American people formerly inhabiting the northern Great Plains between the Platte and Yellowstone rivers and now in south-eastern Montana; Greek, Conodon, “cross-tooth”, alludes to molar crown morphology and is a commonly used suffix for triconodont genera.

Species: montanensis CIFELLI, WIBLE & JENKINS, 1998
Etymology: Geographic reference to the State of Montana, region of specimens belonging to the species.

Holotype: OMNH 33457

Locality: OMNH locality V920, Big Horn County, Montana.

Horizon: Lower part of unit VII, lower part of the Cloverly Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Cashenranchian, Aptian-Albian Stage, middle Gallic subepoch, lower Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Part of right mandible with distal root of last premolar (?p4), mesial root and distal half of m1, m2-m3, roots of m4 and m5 in early eruption.

Hypodigm

OMNH 33459: An edentulous incomplete jaw, is tentatively referred to the species but is not formally placed in the hypodgm.

Etymology: Named for the State of Utah, where the type and referred specimens and species were collected.
