Etymology: Sanskrit, kaakshinaatya, "of the south" referring to the Deccan region of India where the fossils were recovered and the restricted geographic distribution of gondwanatherians on the southern continents.

Species: jederi WILSON, DAS SARAMA & ANANTHARAMAN, 2007
Etymology: In honor of Professor Jeffrey A. Wilson, jederi is a nickname for him, vertebrate paleontologist from the University of Michigan, honoring the vital role he played in facilitating the current collaboration.

Holotype: GSI/SR/PAL-G074

Locality: Near Gokak, Karnataka State, India.

Horizon: Intertrappean beds.

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, uppermost Senonian subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.
