Etymology: Latin, fere, "almost", referring to the docodontan affinity of the new genus, Greek, dokos, “beam, rafter”, and Greek, odon, “tooth”.

Etymology: In honor of Mingchen Chow for his pioneering work on fossil mamalls in China.
