Etymology: Japanese, Haku, 'white'; Hakusan, a sacred Shinto volcano near Kuwajima where the fossil was found; Japanese, san, 'mountain'; Greek, tooth, '-odon'.

Species: archaeus ROUGIER, ISAJI & MANABE, 2007
Etymology: Greek, archaeus, meaning old, in reference to this being one of the oldest Japanese mammals described to date.

Holotype: SBEI 006

Locality: "The Kaseki-Kabe" fossil Bluff, 36°12'N, 136°38'E, Tedori River, Near Hakusan City, Shiramine District, Ishikawa Prefecture, Honshu Island, Japan.

Horizon: Kuwajima Formation, Itoshiro Subgroup, Tetori Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Uppermost part of the Neocomian Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: A partial right lower jaw missing the incisor alveoli, and the cornoid, angular, and condylar process with p2-m5.
