Etymology: In honor of Dr. Siegfried Henkel (1931-1984), paleontologist at Frier Universitat Berlin, for his part in early mammal digs at Guimarota, Portugal, Greek, therion, “beast”: Henkel’s beast.

Etymology: In reference to Guimorata Coal Pits, Guimarota, Portugal.

Holotype: Gui Mam 138/76

Locality: Guimarota lignite mine (Mina de Lignito Guimarota), 1.5 km SSE of Leiria, Leiria District, Portugal.
