Etymology: In honor of Professor Malcom C. McKenna (American Museum of Natural History) and Greek, lestes, “thief”: McKenna’s thief.

Species: gobiensis KIELAN-JAWOROWSKA, 1968
Etymology: In reference to where the specimen was found, the Gobi Desert, Mongolia.

Holotype: ZPal MgM-I/3

Locality: Main Field, Bayan Zag (= Bayn Dzak, Shabarakh Usu GILMORE, 1943), Ömnögov (South Gobi), Mongolia.

Horizon: Djadochta Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Middle Campanian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Almost complete skull without posterior portion of cranium with right and lower jaws in occlusion.

ZPal MgM-I/2: Partial skull with teeth.

ZPal MgM-I/5: Fragmentary skull with teeth.

ZPal MgM-I/1: Damaged dorsal arch of an atlas and body of an axis associated with the skull of an juvenile.
