Genus: Kryoryctes PRIDMORE, RICH, VICKERS-RICH & GAMBARYAN, 2005
Etymology: Greek, kryo, "low temperature"; refering to the seasonal coldness encountered by animals living in proximity to the Dinosaur Cove site in the Early Cretaceous at which time this region was located at high latitude; Greek, oryktes, "one who digs"; refers to features of the robust humerus, which attests to a strongly developed capacity for digging.

Species: caudburyi PRIDMORE, RICH, VICKERS-RICH & GAMBARYAN, 2005
Etymology: In honor of the Cadbury Schwepps Pty Ltd. in allusion to the dark coulour of the holotype, and in recognition of the support provided by that organisation to the paleontological field work that resulted in the discovery of the specimen.

Locality: "The First Pillar", Slippery Rock Site, Dinosaur Cove, Victoria State, Australia.

Horizon: Eumeralla Formation, Otway Group.
