Genus: Lakotalestes CIFELLI,
DAVIS & SAMES, 2014
Etymology: In reference to the Lakota Formation, from whence the holotype and
only known specimen of the type species was collected; and Greek, lestes, "robber
or plunderer," a commonly-used suffix for genera of small, presumably faunivorous
mammals.
Species: luoi CIFELLI, DAVIS & SAMES, 2014
Etymology: In honor of Zhe-Xi Luo, for his contributions to the knowlege of
Mesozoic mammals.
Holotype: OMNH 62673
Locality: OMNH V1243, near the mouth of Hell Canyon, Section 26, township 8S, Range 4E, N43°19', W103°37', about 17 ENE of Edgemont, Fall River County, South Dakota.
Horizon: Chilson Member, Lakota Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Berriasian-Valangian Stage, Lower Neocomian Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.
Material: Right upper molar from the distal part of the series, perhaps M5.
Referred material:
