Etymology: Latin, mirus, "amazing, remarkable" and Latin, dens, "tooth." In reference to the remarkalbe tooth morphology of the new genus.

Etymology: In honor of Hongtao Cai, who collected and curates the holotype specimen.

Holotype: HT-B-PM-0001 (part and counterpart)

Locality: Daohugou site, Nincheng County, Inner Mongolia, China.
