Etymology : Greek, spalax, “mole”, and a commonly used prefix for genera of this family, Greek, lestes, “robber, plunderer”, and a commonly used suffix for genera of small and presumably stealthy, predaceous mammals.

Species: cretulablatta CIFELLI & MADSEN, 1999
Etymology: Latin, dim of creta, cretula, “chalk”; and Latin, blatta, “cockroach”. Allusion is to the Cretaceous age and remarkable, roach-like abundance of the species.

Etymology: Latin, inconcinus, “awkward, coarse”; in reference to the appearance of the teeth when compared to the dainty, elegant morphology generally characterizing smaller species of Spalacotheriidae.
