Etymology: Latin, spelaeum, "cavern"; becasue the tooth was found in karstic cavern deposits and Latin, molitor, "miller", in allusion to the grinding function of the basined talonid.

Etymology: Latin, speratus, "hoped for", in allusion to the anticipation of the discovery fo a tribosphenic molar in the Balve locality.

Locality: Fissure filling within the Busche Quarry near Balve, Sauerland, North Rhine-Westphalia State, Germany.
