Genus: Symmetrolestes TSUBAMOTO, ROUGIER, ISAJI, MANABE & FORASIEPI, 2004
Etymology: Greek, symmetros, "symmetric," in reference to the symmetric aspect of the molars of most members of the "Symmetrodonta"; and Greek, lestes, "hunter," a common ending of the names of Mesozoic mammals despite that the hunting babitis of these miniscule critters are dubious.

Etymology: Latin, parvus, "small."

Holotype: NSMP PV 20562

Locality: In the valley of the Sugiyama-gawa River, Kitadani-cho, Katsuyama City, 36°07'41"N, 136°32'44"E, Fukui Prefecture, Honshu Island, Central Japan.

Horizon: Upper part of the Kitadani Formation, Akaiwa Subgroup, Tetori Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Hauterivian Stage, Upper Neocomian Subepoch to Aptian- Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: A fragmentary right lower jaw with an incisor and 5 postcanine teeth found in two blocks.
