Etymology: Chinese pinyin, yu character that is the short form for Henan Province and Mongolia, baatar, "hero"; a common suffix for generic names of many Asian Cretaceous multituberculates.

Species: zhongyuanensis  XU, ZHANG, PU, JIA, ZHANG, LÜ, & MENG, 2015
Etymology: In reference to Zhongyuan, ancient name of the geographic area of today's Henan province, China.

Holotype: 41HIII0111 (field number: L08-61)

Locality: Yankan Village, Luanchuan County, Tantou Basin, Henan Province, China.

Horizon: Qiupa Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Maastrichtian Stage, Upper Senonian Subepoch, Uppermost Gulf Epoch, Latest Late Cretaceous.

Material: Nearly complete cranium, associated dentry bones, and partial postcranium.
