Genus: Zhangheotherium HU, WANG, LUO & LI, 1997
Etymology: In honor of Zhang He, who collected and donated the holotype specimen to the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Palaeoanthrophology and Greek, therium, "beast."

Species: quinquecuspidens HU, WANG, LUO & LI, 1997
Etymology: Latin, quinque, "five," Latin, cuspis, "point" and Latin, dens, "tooth," for the three main cusps plus two large accessory cuspules on the lower molars.

Holotype: Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, IVPP V7466

Locality: Jianshangou Valley, approximately 41°41’01”N, 120°59’30”E, about 32 km east of Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province, Northwestern China.

Horizon: Jianshangou beds, consisting primarily of shales, are the lowest lacustrine intercalation in the neutro-basic volocanic beds of the Horizon 1, Lower part of the Yixian Formation, Jehol Group.

Biostratigraphy: Psittacosaurus Fauna, Confuciusornis Avifauna.

Age: Valanginian Stage, Upper Neocomian Subepoch, Early Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Partial skull and most of the postcranial skeleton, including all cervical and thoracic vertebrae, forelimbs and pectoral girdle, as sell as the excellent impression of the hindlimbs and pelvic girdle, and ribs. Lumbar and sacral vertebrae are represented by poor impressions. Some tarsals and most of the caudal vertebrae are missing.

Note: Has an Os Calcaris (HURUM, LUO & KIELAN-JAWOROWSKA, 2006).

HURUM, LUO & KIELAN-JAWOROWSKA, 2006

Locality: Jianshangou-Sihetun area of Beipiao, Shangyuan, Beipiao City, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Yixian Formation (Jiufotang Formation, = Chaomidianzi Formation of Ji et al, 1998), Jehol Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Cretaceous.

Material: Nearly complete specimen with ‘feather’ impressions.

NGMC 2124 (Sinosauropteryx prima): A nearly complete skeleton with ‘feather’ impressions.
Note: Initally described by JI & JI (1997). This specimen includes symmetrodont ammal 2 jaws (Zhangheotherium) and skeletal elements in the stomach region (CURRIE & CHEN, 2001). A third jaw belongs to Sinobaatar (HURUM, LUO & KIELAN-JAWOROWSKA, 2006)

 

WANG, WANG, WANG, XU, TANG, ZHANG, HU, GU & HAO, 1998

Locality: Sihetun, Shangyuan, Beipiao City, western Liaoning Province, Northeastern China.

Horizon: Yixian Formation, third member, grayish-green medium-fine sandstone with gray and grayish-white siltstone, silty shale in the upper part, grey, grayish-black, grayish-white shale with siltstone, silty mudstone and grayish-white, light yellow tuffinte, tuffaceous sandstone and mudstone in the middle part, light yellow silty musdstone, mudstone with convolute bedding in the lower part.
