Genus: Cerrejonisuchus HASTINGS, BLOCK, CADENA & JARAMILLO, 2010
Etymology: In reference to the Cerrejon Formation, La Guajira Department, northeastern Colombia, from which the fossils were recovered within the Cerrejon coal mine, on the Guajira Peninsula of northeastern Colombia and Greek, suchos, "crocodile."

Species: improcerus HASTINGS, BLOCK, CADENA & JARAMILLO, 2010
Etymology: Latin, improcerus, "diminutive"; an allusion not only to its relatively short snout, but also in relatively small body size.

Holotype: UF/IGM 29

Locality: La Puente Pit, within the Cerrejon Coal Mine, Latitude 11.08.45.50N, Longitude 72.32.55.56W, La Guajira Department, northeastern Colombia.

Horizon: Cerrejon Formaiton, underclay of Coal Seam 90.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Middle to late Paleocene Epoch, Lower Paleogene Period, Lower Tertiary Subera, Cenozoic Era.

Material: Nearly complete skull, 11 teeth, a complete dorsal skull talbe (postorbital, squamosal, parietal, and frontal) and a partial occipital region including exoccipitals, basioccipitla and paritla basiphenoid.

Referred material:

UF/IGM 31: A nearly complete skull with at least 4 teeth and associated postcranials including ahumerus, ulna, left femur, fibula, fibula, tibia, left and right pubi, 17 vertebrae, 1 rib, and 8 osteoderms.

UF/IGM 32: A complete snout and partial oribital region.

Horizon: Cerrejon Formaiton, underclay of Coal Seam 90.

UF/IGM 30: Lower jaw including dentaries and splenials and a total of 11 partial teeth.
