Etymology: Greek, ortho, "straight" and Greek, soukos, "crocodile." Straight crocodile.

Etymology: In reference to the Stormberg Series.

Holotype: South African Museum No. K 409

Locality: Orange River Valley, Qacha's Nek Province, Leostho (Formerly Basutoland), Southern Africa.

Horizon: Upper Red Beds Formation, Stormberg Series.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Jurassic.

Material: Skull and skeleton lacking caudal vertebrae.

Referred material:

Locality: Elevation of 2 115 meters on the slope of Majubanek Mountain facing the Kromme Spruit River, Free (Orange Free) State, South Africa.

Horizon: Upper Red Beds Formation, Stormberg Series.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Jurassic.

Material:

SAM-K4639: Skull and lower jaws.
