Genus: Libonectes CARPENTER, 1997
Etymology: Greek, masculine gender from libo “southwest wind” + nektes, “swimmer”, alluding to the American Southwest where the holotype was found.

Holotype: Department of Geology, Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, SMUSMP 69120.

Locality: Andy Anderson farm near Cedar Hill, Dallas County, Texas.

Horizon: Britton Formation, Turonian, Uppermost Eagle Ford Shale.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Late Cretaceous.

Material: Skull, 62 cervical vertebrae, pectrum, and other fragments.
Note: Found with about 70 gastroliths.
