Etymology: «Yan » is derived from the Chinese spelling of the ancient Chinese Yan Dynasty, the type locality Chaoyang City was its capital.

Etymology: In honor of Larry D. Martin for his contribution to the study of Mesozoic birds.

Locality: Chaoyang City, Yixian County, Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Jiutotang Formation.
