Etymology: The generic name derives from the combination of the Crato Member lithostratigrahic unit, where the specimen was found, and the zoological group Aves.

Etymology: The specific epithet refers to the Ceara State, where the fossil was collected

Holotype: UFRJ-DG 031Av

Locality: Pedra Branca Mine, Nova Olinda County, Ceara State, Brazil.

Horizon: Crato Member, Santa Formation, Araripe Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Skull, fore-and hindlimbs, portions of vertebral column, and most of both pectoral and pelvic girdles.

Note: With feather impresions around the body, neck and two large tail feathers.
