Genus: Eoconfuciusornis ZHANG, ZHOU & BENTON, 2008
Etymology: Greek, Eo, 'dawn', and Confuciusornis; indicating that some features of this new bird are more primitive than other Confuciusornithid birds.

Species: zhengi ZHANG, ZHOU & BENTON, 2008
Etymology: In honor of the distinguished Chinese ornithologist Zheng Guangmei.

Holotype: IVPP V11977 (part and counterpart)

Locality: Sichakou, Fengning County, Hebei Province, China.

Horizon: Dabeigou Formation, Lowest Jehol Biota.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Barremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Middle Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Skull and skeleton of a nearly complete specimen.

Note: Has feather impressions.
