Genus: Gretcheniao CHIAPPE, QINGJIN, SERRANO, SIGURDSEN, MIN, BELL & DI, 2019
Etymology: In honor of Mrs. Gretchen Augustyn and her support to the Dinosaur Institute of the natural History Museum o fLos Angeles County, and the chinese character, niao, "bird."

Species: sinensis CHIAPPE, QINGJIN, SERRANO, SIGURDSEN, MIN, BELL & DI, 2019
Etymology: From sino, a term generally used to reference to china.

Holotype: BMNH Ph 829 (LACM 7917/156630 cast)

Locality: Near Huludao City, Jianchang County, Liaoning Province, Northeast China.

Horizon: Yixian Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Baremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Middle Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: A nearly complete skeleton, largely exposed in ventral view, and contained in a single flab.

Note: Faint remnants of plumage are preserved as carbonized material, premarily aroudn teh enct and projecting from teh distal portion of the left forelimb.
