Genus: Wulong POUST, GAO, VARRICCHIO, WU & ZHANG, 2020
Etymology: Chinese, Wu, "dancing' for the individual's sprightly pose and inferred nimble habits, and Chinese, long, "dragon," a suffix commingly applied to dinosaurian generic names from China.

Species: bohaiensis POUST, GAO, VARRICCHIO, WU & ZHANG, 2020
Etymology: Chinese Bo Hai, combined with the suffix -ensis in honor of its accession in the collections of the Dalian Natural History Museum (DNHM) situated on the shore of the Bohai starit.

Holotype: D2933

Locality: Shangheshou, Chaoyang County, western Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Jiufotang Formation, Upper Jehol Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Barremian Stage, Lower Gallic Subepoch, Lower Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Material: Fragmentary skull and skeleton with ‘feather’ impressions.
